Buying Ads on Tankie Doodle

The terms are fairly simple: email me and let me know you want an ad, and what type.

The ad to your right is 160x600. It's called a "skyscraper ad" in the industry, and it shows up on literally every page. In terms of impact, it can't be beat. It provides the most space to make the argument for your good, service, fundraiser, or organization.

The ad at the bottom of this page is 468x60. It's called a "banner ad" in the industry, and it shows up at the bottom of every post. Though this allows less individual eyeball time than the skyscraper, there's three of them on the front page of the blog. Especially for my multi-page essays and books, eyeballs will be wandering across it quite often.

The ads are set up to be served randomly, so if you buy an ad from me, it will not be the only ad showing up in that space at that time. This actually helps you out! Because the ad is constantly changing with every reload of the page, or every loading of a new page, readers will not tune them out as hard or as quickly as they would a single ad. Therefore, your ad is likelier to be noticed, and likelier to get a clickthrough.

The blog gets some weird traffic patterns that I'm gonna break down for you right now:

I took this screenshot just now, about a year after founding this blog (same with the screenshot to follow). In about a year, it's gotten slightly over 2000 unique views that aren't from my IP and that stuck around long enough to be considered views. People clicking through pages to get to other pages aren't registered by this method, so the total number of views is probably higher; while they aren't reading much, they are probably still susceptible to a well-crafted advertisement.

But the traffic comes in waves. I'm by the internet in wintertime, able to post and promote the blog, so that's when the bulk of the traffic comes:

This is why I'm selling adspace by the year. I can't guarantee when exactly the blog is going to get spikes of interest, and I'd feel bad for anyone buying adspace in the summer when I may well have my van break down and be unable to post anything for months. But if you have an ad running for a whole year, it'll get seen by a fair number of folks. Furthermore, that 2000 views number is a floor, not a ceiling. I've got a webcomic whose pageviews and readership grew every single year I was actively updating and promoting it, and I expect that same process to work here too.

Now, who are the people reading this blog? Communists, obviously, but not everyone here is a communist. Some are just survivalist/homesteading types interested to see what I'm up to. Some are friends of mine from other projects. And within all of that is a lot of subcategories. Just from knowing my readers personally, I can attest to a lot of interest in the gothic subculture, for one example. I wouldn't be surprised if Civil War buffs come by here because of how often the word "Lincoln" shows up. It's a wide range of people with a wide range of interests, and also probably the best place on the internet to advertise to communists, and patriotic American communists in particular.

What are the rules about what I'll run? No smut, but tasteful safe-for-work ads for your OnlyFans is okay. No capitalist enterprises of any kind can be the primary employer, but your self-employing side hustle selling books you wrote on Amazon is fine, as is a worker-owned enterprise selling literally anything.

Ad prices are negotiable, but right now I'll take $5 for a year's worth of ads unless the ad is for a charitable endeavor, in which case I'll be happy to run it for you for free. If I have to make the ad for you, throw in another $15 on top of that to pay me for my labor. If you want to run more than 1 ad at the same time, we can haggle about it in my inbox.

Your ad could be here!
